    • In ’81 I was still working with my father and still a theater major. I would have to see the piece to estimate a price.
I don’t usually speculate about the worth of older work I no longer have. I am still working and my work is priced comparable to other ceramic artists with similar training skill and experience.

    • This is not mine. I have used several ways of signing but most have an “SH” and a decorative stamp. My father signed just plain “Hawks”. In the 70’s and 80’s I signed my name Stephen Hawks. In the early 90’s I did not sign at all for 5 years. I caved to family pressures because it seemed to defeat the purpose, to always have, to explain and also go back at requests and sign with a sharpie. I later quit dating the work after starting the stamping and varying the decorative stamp from year to year. Now It is the same decorative stamp I have used for several decades, a cross with a sun at top and moon at bottom. Occasionally I still sign my name. I always tell people you can usually spot a persons work through style before you see he signature if you know the work.

  1. Hi Stephen- could you kindly verify whether this is your work or your father’s? Signed “HAWKS” in all caps, very angular, and “74” . I have photos if needed. Thank you kindly.

  2. I found a piece signed “Hawks ’77” in some of my late grandmother’s things. Emailing you some photos to confirm or deny, if that is okay?
